History of Hair Removal

A Brief History of Hair Removal

Hair removal has been a common method since the early 1900's. When people because to pay more attention to fashion, the female body because more noticed as a form of art. The woman's anatomy was seen in a sensual, sexual physical attraction. Hair removal became a part of the daily ritual of preparing for the day, as did application of cosmetics and other beauty products. The female's appearance was a way for her to express herself. Women that were affluent in the society steered toward wearing expensive clothing and cosmetics. Women that were of a lower class wore clothing made from a cheaper material and cheaper make-up.

The introduction to the hair removal ritual was shown to the world through magazines, clothing manufacturing campaigns, and was spread by word of mouth through communities that viewed the rich and affluent as royalty. Women from a wealthy background were the target of the production and introduction of the hair removal products. This reason being is that the producers of hair removal products knew that if they could convince the elite lady in purchasing and using their products then the middle class lady would follow in suit.

The method of hair removal that can be traced all the way back to the cave man era is shaving. This is seen through prehistoric drawings that the caveman carved on the wall of a cave. This was proven because cavemen carved pictures of the human anatomy and men without facial hair. The ritual probably involved using a sharp animal tooth or a flint ax which was a very tedious method of hair removal. It was such a task that a lot of cavemen probably did not even bother with the hair removal ritual. And besides that it was a dangerous procedure.

    Why remove hair?

I find the psychological reasons behind human grooming fascinating, it is widely known that humans have been grooming themselves for mostly "romantic" reasons for as long as they existed, and there are plenty of examples for grooming in the natural world, including many kinds of mammals who are distant relatives of ours.

Hair removal can be perceived as something that is not sensible to do or perform, since our body hair acts as a protective layer and is also important for the health of the skin on which it grows, while the practice of male hair removal might even be more strange, in evolutionary psychology the hair was "used" many times to try and project a bigger size, a stronger "alpha male" look, so removing this hair will definitely not add benefits to the person doing it.

However, it seems that humans have been removing hair from almost anywhere throughout history, and it comes as no surprise that this continues today, and the only real difference is that today there are better tools to remove hair, and there is much more knowledge about the risks and dangers of removing hair.

Modern times have brought with it not only the many different systems and techniques for hair removal but also a wide acceptance of this practice in many cultures and in pop culture, this once intimate and secretive process has now become a cool and interesting thing to talk about, and this reflects not only the change in attitude towards beauty treatments and grooming, but also the growing change towards personal change and adaptation of new philosophies in traditional cultures, in the end its not about hair removal or beauty treatments, but actual about the person's right to do what he wants to do with his or her body, and the mutual agreement that beauty is a matter of personal taste.

About Feeling Good, Fast Cars and Hair Removal

The other day I visited a friend that just bought a really expensive car, this guy is a sharp broker and he did (and still is doing) a lot of money, he was really excited about this car (I am not into advertising car brands, but if you got to know if an Italian car)(the one that has a block horse as logo), as he showed me that very sexy car he started talking how great he felt driving it.

After a few minutes we went for a ride, and pretty soon the conversation took its own, regular path, so we drifted into everyday life kind of a talk, and then he started talking about his wife costing him a fortune in beauty treatments, he went on and on about the costs and the attention that she puts into this, and for a moment there I really thought he was getting upset.

Once back home I discovered that the whole thing is about hair removal treatments, and that they (the couple) were discussing the options and alternatives, the guy was in a very particular mood about the entire idea, "how come twenty years ago a woman would just shave whatever she wanted to shave, or wax it off and that was the end of it?", "why do beauty treatment need to send you to the bank to ask for a second mortgage" and so on.

Now it is pretty easy to get angry on this guy, driving his very expensive new car and not caring about his wife's needs and wants, but more than anything it showed me the vast difference between how people think about hair removal. Not necessarily men and women, male or female, but mostly about the fact that most people who did not think about hair removal take it as a kind of a luxury treatment and much worst than that, they do not attribute any kind of feeling or mental state to the process, now I don't want to make this all about psychology, but is there anyone that would argue that hair removal is a treatment that can or might change a self perception of a person? Might even increase self esteem? Make a person more confident? Absolutely, the answer to all of these and many more question is - of course it can.

So one person can feel great because he is driving a car and another needs to provide excuses and come up with historical facts and theories to justify a beauty treatment? In the end these two things will have a profound inner effect on the two people, and that is something you need to think about if you ever had difficulty understanding why some people go through the trouble of beauty treatments.

Women and Hair Removal - soem facts

Some amazing facts (that you probably never knew) (or never even thought about) regarding women and hair removal.

A recent survey has produced these findings, some of which really shocked me, but only because I never really thought of hair removal in those terms. I think you will be surprised as well.

The average American women will spend about two months on hair removal in her entire life, its around 60 days of pure hair removal, next time someone tells me that hair removal is a minor beauty treatment, I might tell them that anything you spend 2 months of you life doing is not minor.

The time span of this activity is thought to be around 54 years, yup, thats right, the average women will spend those two months removing excess hair during 54 years, meaning that (of course) this is not something we do right away when we are kids, but takes some time to get adapted to (which again is no big surprise)

Costs? What are the average hair removal costs - per lifetime, its a little over $10,000, which is not too bad, considering you will remove hair for most of your life, there are many "minor" things that cost a hell lot more (toilette paper?). But if you like waxing then it probably means you will spend more than double that amount in your lifetime, because women who use wax for hair removal spend about $23,000 on it.

    Pretty amazing no?

    Two Types Of Hair Removal

Broadly speaking, there are two basic types of body hair removal methods/products- 1.Depilation and 2.Epilation Depilation It calls for doing something to the part of your hair that remains on the skin surface. Shaving is the most original form of depilation. Epilation On the other hand, the specialty of Epilation is that, it extinguishes the entire hair (from top to the core root) rather than cleaning up the hair part on skin surfaces. As you will shop around, you will come across with various products for body hair removal. Check these tips out to be an informed buyer. Lets look deeper into these two hair removal thecniques and find out a little more about them.

Depilatory waxes Better depilatory waxes give you less hassle with the residues. Here are some additional tips on depilatory waxes and their applications- It is quite useful to put the Epilation strip on top of the waxed area. Try to put it gently right to the direction of the hair's growth. For best results while waxing, keep your skin taut while pulling the epilating strip off. For fully eradicating the hairs, you can apply the wax again to that particular area. A standard revitalizing lotion can help after the waxing is done. Skin care lotions These lotions are specially designed to help the skin after and before any sort of wax or shaving. Standard formulas can heal skin irritation or ingrown hairs efficiently. A good lotion will contain effective exfoliants for raising fast hair penetration. Again, in the case of minor acne, these lotions can help by clearing black or white heads. The lotion can also help dehydrate itchy pimples as pimples tend to go away fast in this way. Just as said- you will come across with dozens of produces for body hair removal, so try to know the users' experience from your peers or friends.
